Genie Francis (born May 26, 1962) is an American actress, best known for her role as Laura Spencer on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital.
Early Career: Francis began her acting career at a young age, landing the role of Laura Spencer in 1977. Her on-screen romance with Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary) became a cultural phenomenon. Their wedding in 1981 was one of the highest-rated events in daytime television history.
General Hospital: While Francis has taken breaks from General Hospital, she has remained closely associated with the show for decades. She has won two Daytime Emmy Awards for her performance as Laura, one for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (2007) and another for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (2018).
Other Roles: Beyond General Hospital, Francis has appeared in other television series and movies, including Bare Essence, North and South, and Murder, She Wrote. She also starred in the Hallmark Channel movie The Note.
Personal Life: Francis is married to actor and director Jonathan Frakes. They have two children. She has been open about her struggles with depression and has advocated for mental health awareness.
